Stem cell researchers in the United Kingdom, facing a shortage of eggs needed for research cloning, will ask women who are undergoing fertility treatment to donate some of their healthy eggs. But first, the researchers must obtain the permission of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority. No one in the UK seems to be proposing that women undergo egg extraction solely for research.
