The United States Congress
passed an amendment to an appropriations bill preventing the
US Patent and Trade Office from issuing "patents on claims
directed to or encompassing a human organism."

Israel has permanently banned
human reproductive cloning. The existing moratorium was to expire
soon. The Knesset passed the ban against the wishes of Science
and Technology Minister Eliezer Sandberg, who opposed the permanent
ban in favor of just extending the moratorium.

Brazil's lower house has approved
a biosafety bill that would ban both research and reproductive
human cloning. However, an exception to permit research cloning
may be included to assure passage of the bill as a whole.
